Manimekala is a WOC-founded and owned brand, based on the principles of aesthetics, ethics, community and transparency.

We create distinctive "slow" fashion: thoughtful, season-less styles that are designed to last for a lifetime or longer. We use high quality, low-impact materials: primarily organic cotton and silk but also recycled, upcycled, vintage or deadstock fabrics, and fully recyclable packaging. We use our own offcuts to make new designs, reducing wastage and creating one-of-a-kind patchwork pieces. Learn more about our fabrics here.

To ensure ethical treatment of our makers, we avoid working with traditional for-profit factories and instead make the majority of our pieces to order in our own studio in London, UK. We also create limited edition capsule collections with female-led artisan groups to support and nurture traditional craft skills. Learn more about who makes our clothes here.

Most of our pieces are made to order - this helps us to avoid waste by only creating what you want. It also means we can easily customise your piece just for you!

The making time for each style is listed on the product page. Please note that the making time is in addition to the shipping/delivery time. If you need to receive your order earlier, or by a certain date, please us know and we will do our best to get it to you in time.

We do not typically hold much stock but if we do have a particular piece already made at the studio, it will be listed on the product page as "ready to ship" and will be dispatched immediately when ordered.

We are happy to offer customisation on any of our made-to-order styles. Popular customisations can be selected on the relevant product page. For any other customisations, just contact us.

Please note that we do not allow cancellations, returns or exchanges on customised or bespoke pieces.

We use high quality fabrics that will last a lifetime (or longer), provided they are carefully worn, washed and stored. We advise airing and steaming your garments between wears, and only cleaning when they are visibly dirty.

Most Manimekala garments and textile accessories can be washed at home, either by machine or by hand. For best results on silk and certain other delicate textiles, we recommend professional dry cleaning with an eco-friendly cleaner. Please refer to the care label on your garment for individual details.

How to hand-wash

• Mix a small amount of laundry detergent in cool water (30C max, it should feel cool to the touch), then turn the garment inside out and place in the water.
• Gently move the garment around to soak it completely, but do not rub or wring the fabric as this may damage it.
• Rinse in clean water, then gently straighten out and hang to air dry in the shade.
• Natural fibres tend to wrinkle and feel a little "crispy" after washing, but can be easily ironed or steamed to make them soft and wrinkle-free.

Manimekala jewellery and other non-textile accessories are wipe-clean only. Avoid contact with water, perfumes or oils, and store in a cool, dry place in their original protective box or bag.

If you are unsure how to care for any of our products, please contact us and we will be happy to advise. But remember that minor wear and tear is natural, and a sign of being loved and worn!

Buying gift cards

Our gift cards are digital and are sent via email directly to the recipient, or to the buyer if there is no recipient. Gift cards include an optional personal message and can either be scheduled to send on a specific date (by 10am) or immediately after purchase. The buyer will receive a a receipt upon purchase and a confirmation email when the gift card is sent to the recipient.

Discount codes cannot be used to purchase a gift card. Gift cards also cannot be used to purchase another gift card.

Unused gift cards can be cancelled within 14 days of purchase and will be refunded to the buyer (not the recipient). Partially or fully used gift cards cannot be cancelled or refunded.

Using gift cards

Manimekala gift cards are redeemable on any orders placed on this website by entering the code at checkout. They cannot be used when purchasing Manimekala via stockists.

At checkout, the full value of the gift card is subtracted from the order total including taxes and shipping. If the order total is below the value of the gift card, the remaining amount will stay on your gift card and will be redeemable on future orders. If the order total is above the value of the gift card, you will need to pay the balance via another payment method. Multiple gift cards can be used per order, and gift cards can be used in conjuction with discount codes.

Orders paid for via gift card can be returned like any other order, subject to our returns policy. A refund will add the refunded amount back to your gift card's balance.

Any discounts offered by Manimekala are applicable only to purchases made on this website and are valid only for the duration, products and/or shipping locations stated. Discounts are offered in good faith at our discretion and may withdrawn at any time without notice.
